What Is World IBD Day?
| 13 commentsWorld IBD Day, led by patient organizations representing 27 countries on four continents, will officially be celebrated on May 19, 2010. Patient groups from the United States, Canada, Australia, 23 European nations, and Brazil are working to draw awareness to IBD.
IBD, which stands for inflammatory bowel diseases, is comprised of Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis — two serious, chronic digestive diseases that affect five million people worldwide (1.4 million in the U.S. alone). Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis directly affect the digestive system and cause intestinal tissue to become inflamed, form sores, and bleed easily. There is no cure, no known cause, and little public understanding of the pain and chronic suffering with which IBD patients courageously cope every day of their lives.

My son is 2yr old and has been diaganosed with Crohn’s Colitis. He’s had it since he was two months old. The challanges of having IBD at this age is it can not be treated as aggressive. If the medicince can be compounded into liquid, and whether or not his little system can tolerated. The fact that he keep’s diarrhea causes constant diaper rash. He’s allergic to dairy, and that compromises his growth development. I appreciate the CCFA and all of it’s publication’s ,it just unfortunate that there isn’t enough research on children as young as mind with this crohnic illness. I am curious to know how many children his age suffer with this ill fate.
Hi. I am a colitis patient and am very excited about World IBD Day. I was wondering are they any tshirts being made to show our support? Is there a specific color people should wear to show their support?
Thanks!
Any T-shirts available?
How can we show our support and create more awareness on this day? Say, if we are not in close proximity to the CCFA?
Dear friends,
Happy to know there will be a World IBD Day. We also have a IBD patient group in Taiwan, we are wondering whether we can join the activity or not?
Best,

I’m a patient of UC living in Taiwan. It’s great to see this event.
There is a IBD website in Traditional Chinese for IBD led by gastroenterologists in Taiwan:
http://www.ibdpg.tw . Could we possibly also add this site to the “Resources and Links” to raise the awareness as well.
Parabéns às organizações pela união em busca da divulgação de tais doenças. Tais doenças não matam. O que mata é a falta de informação sobre elas!
